What's Your Story?

In 1998, CBS launched a new segment to their news programing that aired every other Friday called "Everybody Has a Story." Steve Hartman would toss a dart at the map, travel to that place, call someone at random from the phone book (!), and ask for their story.

While they rarely were taken seriously on the first call, the stories they uncovered never disappointed. Some were funny, some were heart warming, some were tragic but they all proved the title of the segment was true; everybody has a story.

So, what's your story?

We all have stories of how we got to where we are, stories of people who shaped us, and stories of memorable events. Like those segments, some may be funny, heart warming, and tragic but they nudged us into being the people we are.

Maybe you've never thought about it. That's ok, most people haven't. As St. Augustine mentioned:

“Men go abroad to wonder the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long  courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars;  and they pass by themselves without wondering.”

I would encourage you to think about the answer to these questions before you close this blog. You might even want to take some notes.

Who was/is your biggest influence? Why?

What fuels your creativity?

Where do you invest the most time?

Where do you invest the most mental energy?

What is one thing you would like to get better at or improve about yourself? What step can you take today to start making that happen?

We owe it to ourselves and those around us to know our story. By gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves, we will continually improve as individuals.

'Till Next Time,

Doug
