Courageous

Mister G

“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”

-Muhammad Ali

There is a common misconception that ‘courage’ is something OTHER people have.  People who risk their own health and safety, those battling severe illness, and those who are forced to deal with mental and emotional turmoil are all called courageous.

We hardly ever see ourselves as courageous.

The truth is… we are.... more than we know.

We draw on this courage throughout each day; from our morning commute, to meetings, raising children, or even making dinner.  Courage isn't simply reserved for grand events and difficulties. We show it in the everyday tasks of life because, let’s face it, at ANY TIME things could all fall apart.

What do we do? We pivot and adapt… and that’s what courage is all about.

We face these tasks with some amount of courage because we either know we can handle whatever happens or figure it out on the spot.  You may have heard the saying, “Jump from the cliff and assemble the airplane on the way down”.  We are constantly drawing on our courage and experience to handle life as it happens.

Why, then, don’t we show that courage in other areas of our lives?

We don’t apply for the job, we don’t try a new recipe, we don’t step to the edge of our comfort zone because we tell ourselves we aren’t whatever enough.  We’re not smart enough, experienced enough, strong enough.

Draw on the courage you know you have. You know you can.
